Steering and Right Suspension

The Steering
Stage 10.1

Insert the cylindrical end of a Tie Rod End Link into the Left Tie Rod Anchor (marked with an ‘L’) as shown, and secure with two (2) CM screws.

Ensure that the bend in the end link is facing the right way. This is also your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Stage 10.2

Insert one of the Ball Joints for the Steering into the third hole from the end of the Central Steering Bar, line up the hole in the ball joint with the circular end of the Tie Rod End Link as shown, and secure with one (1) JM screw:

The direction of this attachment is important, make sure it is correct:

Stage 10.3

Insert the cylindrical end of a Tie Rod End Link into the Right Tie Rod Anchor (marked with an ‘R’) as shown, and secure with two (2) CM screws.

Ensure that the bend in the end link is facing the right way:

Stage 10.4

Take the assembled Central Steering Bar and insert another Ball Joint for the Steering into the opposite end (second hole in), line up the hole in the ball joint with the circular end of this Tie Rod End Link as shown, and secure with one (1) JM screw:

The direction of this attachment is important, make sure it is correct:

Stage 10.5

Insert another Ball Joint for the Steering through the last hole on the right side of the Central Steering Bar, and attach the Tie Rod to this ball joint (with the small pins along the shaft facing the End Links) with one (1) JM screw:

Stage 10.6

Retrieve the chassis assembly from the previous issue. Insert another Ball Joint for the Steering through the second hole from the left end of the Central Steering Bar, slide this ball joint into the forked end of the Left Tie Rod, and secure with one (1) JM screw as shown:

Stage 10.7

Insert the last Ball Joint for the Steering up through the Front Right Spindle (on the other side) from below and align the other Tie Rod around it and secure these together with one (1) JM screw:

Stage 10.8

Align the two Tie Rod Anchors to these locations along the rear edge of the Engine Guard Plate, and secure with two (2) CM screws.

The instructions mention that you can adjust the (toe) alignment of the front wheels by adjusting how the Tie Rod End Links sit in the slots of the Tie Rod Anchors. If needed, loosen the screws from Stages 10.1 and 10.3 above and slide the links along the slots until you are happy, then re-tighten:

The Suspension

Stage 10.9

The Front Suspension Stay Rods are identical, but have a slight bend to them. Take one of the Front Suspension Stay Rods and insert the short end (closest to the bend) into this hole of the Lower Control Arm:

Insert the other end (away from the bend) into this hole of the Front Chassis Crossmember:

Stage 10.10

Repeat the previous step on the other side with the other Front Suspension Stay Rod:

Thoughts

MOM: In this stage, you may find yourself needing to sand the Ball Joints for the Steering due to the fit being a bit too snug and it doesn’t impact the aesthetics of the build. There was a lot of pre threading in this stage which made for smoother tightening where needed. We are getting closer to completing the suspension!
