Build

Installing the Rear Brakes

Stage 37.1

Fit the two pins of a Brake Disc (Piece 1) into the matching holes of a Brake Disc (Piece 2), as shown:

Stage 37.2

Fit one of the Rear Wheel Hubs to the front of this Brake Disc assembly, aligning the locating pin and screw holes as shown:

Secure these together from behind with two (2) PM screws.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Stage 37.3

Retrieve your Rear Axle assembly from the previous stage. Slide the Left Rear Brake Caliper Mounting Bracket (marked ‘L’) onto the left end of the Rear Axle so the ‘L’ is facing outward and align the locating pin (arrow below) and screw holes:

Secure this into place with two (2) PM screws, as shown:

Stage 37.4

Slide the Brake Disc assembly onto the same end of the Rear Axle assembly, as shown:

Fit the Left Rear Brake Caliper over the edge of the Brake Disc assembly.

Both of the calipers are the same, so you can use either one here:

On the rear side, align the two screw holes of the Left Rear Brake Caliper to the matching holes of the Left Rear Brake Caliper Mounting Bracket, and secure these together using two (2) PM screws as shown:

Stage 37.5

Repeat stages 37.1 and 37.2 to create the right side Brake Disc assembly:

Stage 37.6

Like before, slide the Right Rear Brake Caliper Mounting Bracket (marked ‘R’) onto the right end of the Rear Axle so the ‘R’ is facing outward, and secure it into place with two (2) PM screws:

Also as before, slide this recent Brake Disc assembly onto the same end of the Rear Axle assembly, and fit the Right Rear Brake Caliper over the edge of the Brake Disc assembly:

Align the two screw holes of the Right Rear Brake Caliper to the matching holes of the Right Rear Brake Caliper Mounting Bracket, and secure these together using two (2) PM screws as shown:

Stage 37.7

Slide the ‘bent’ end of the shorter Left Rear Brake Hose into this hole of the Rear Brake Hose Fitting:

Push the bottom pin of the Rear Brake Hose Fitting into the matching hole on the Rear Axle.

You may need to rotate this Left Rear Brake Hose around its long axis to get it to run along the axle, as shown:

Then, slide the free end of the Left Rear Brake Hose into the hole behind the Left Rear Brake Caliper, as shown:

Stage 37.8

In a similar way, slide the ‘stubby’ end of the Right Rear Brake Hose into the free hole of the Rear Brake Hose Fitting and the other end into the back of the Right Rear Brake Caliper, as shown:

Thoughts

This is one of the best looking rear ends of any of my partwork models – I really appreciate that! We will not need this Rear Axle assembly again until Stage 40, so keep it safe for now.
