“In this assembly session you will attach all the respective components and accessories to the tailgate panel.“
Materials: The Boot Lock Cylinder, and both Springs are metal – the rest is plastic.
Fit the smaller Boot Lock Spring between these end pins of the two Boot Lock Piece 2 parts, as shown:
Fit the pins on the sides of the Boot Lock Piece 2 parts into the matching holes of the Boot Lock Piece 1, as shown.
There are pins on both sides of the Boot Lock Piece 2 parts, so this can fit either way:
Fit this Boot Lock assembly to the Tailgate Panel, aligning the opposite side pins on the Boot Lock Piece 2 pins into the matching holes, then secure the Boot Lock assembly to the Tailgate Panel with two (2) AP screws, as shown:
Fit the post of the Boot Lock Cylinder into the central hole of the Boot Lock Piece 3 from this side, as shown.
I found a different way to do this step (which I will show below), but this is how the instructions want it done. Make sure the long tab of the Boot Lock Cylinder goes between the two tabs of the Boot Lock Piece 3, as shown by the arrow here:
Fit the longer Boot Lock Cylinder Spring into the open end of the Boot Lock Cylinder, as shown:
While holding this Boot Lock Cylinder assembly together, fit it to the other side of the Tailgate Panel as shown, and secure it in place with two (2) AP screws.
Instead of assembling this per the previous step, I worked from the Tailgate Panel out. First, this small pin is what the Boot Lock Spring should fit over:
I then slid the Boot Lock Cylinder over the spring and fit the long tab (arrow below) between the two Boot Lock Piece 2 parts, as shown:
Next, I fit the Boot Lock Piece 3 over the cylinder and spring, aligned the screw holes, and secured it all together with the two (2) AP screws, as shown:
This Boot Lock mechanism is fancy. Pressing on the Boot Lock Cylinder separates the Boot Lock Piece 2 parts, releasing the boot lid!
